Falling over is an everyday occurrence when your child is small, and the majority times they are not hurt. Were you aware, though, that well over 2.5 million children have to go to the emergency room each year because of an injury sustained by a fall. Isn’t it important then, to look at some of the ways of avoiding potentially dangerous falls?

Safety gates are an important factor to consider as a way to protect your child from an injury or dangerous fall. In general, safety gates are designed to be placed in a door way or on the top or bottom of the stairs. If you are about to purchase a safety gate, look at the options as there are a couple of different types of safety gate, and some are best for different things.

One of the types of safety gate is attached by being pressure mounted against a wall or doorway. Another type is fixed with screws, this is a hardware mounted safety gate. Although the latter type seems permanent, it can actually be removed quite easily.

If you need a safety gate or your staircase for example, a hardware mounted type will be the best option as it is much more secure, and less easily pushed down. This is very important as we are aware, to ensure that your little one does not fall down the stairs.

For a door way, a good option will be a pressure mounted gate. Many parents want to make sure the kitchen for example is not accessible to a crawling infant. This type of gate will prevent your small child from accessing areas with potential dangers.

Everyone has a different circumstance and home, but whichever gate you decide is best for you, check that it meets the ASTM standards. The box or the gate itself will indicate if it meets these important safety standards.
