First, pay close attention to water issues. Stains on ceilings or walls, musty smells, warped flooring, or visible mold can indicate leaks or poor drainage. Water damage often hides deeper structural problems and can be expensive to fix.

Next, examine the foundation and structure. Cracks in walls, uneven floors, doors that don’t close properly, or gaps around windows may signal foundation movement. While small settling cracks are normal, large or widening ones should be evaluated by a professional.

Outdated or unsafe electrical and plumbing systems are another concern. Flickering lights, exposed wiring, or a fuse box instead of a breaker panel suggest upgrades may be needed.
