Most homeowners get excited about the idea of a weekend DIY painting project. Each DIY painter has slightly different methods and preferences. Although most possess basic painting skills like knowing to use painter’s tape, drop cloths, and stirring the paint for a clean paint job.

Many find it useful to gather tips for painting projects at home. You’re a few candy tips to improve the quality of your painting  project:

  • Buy good quality paint. There’s no being stingy on paint quality. Keep yourself and your family safe by using low volatile organic compounds and low odor paints.
  • Lay down drop cloths. It’s a good idea to invest in cotton or canvas drop cloths instead of plastic ones. Canvas stays in place and absorbs spills while plastic doesn’t. Plastic drop cloths are a little more hazardous and bring the risk of slipping.
  • Remove all the hardware before you paint. Store the hardware and zipper storage bags to protect them from accidental trips. Door knobs, hinges, switches, and light switch plates should all be removed. Label each bag so you know which hardware belongs to each room and you can put them back after your project is complete.
  • Wear protective gear. Just like he protect her furniture during a painting project, don’t forget to protect yourself. Wear clothes that you don’t mind getting paint on. Also, wear proper goggles for your eyes. If you are sanding wear a face mask to protect your lungs from inhaling debris and dust.
