If you are researching electric heaters, you may have come across an electric baseboard heater. Here is some information about what electric baseboard heaters are and a little about how they work.
Electric baseboard heaters are heaters that are wide and short and are installed near floor level. Because electric baseboard heaters are installed near the baseboard, which is why they are called electric baseboard heaters. Although most electric baseboard heaters are hardwired into the home’s existing electrical wiring, there are plug-in units available that plug into a standard electrical outlet.
Electric baseboard heaters heat two ways, either through the hydronic or convection process. The hydronic heaters produce heat through an electric heating element that warms an internal liquid reservoir through metal fins. Convection heaters produce heat through metal fins that heat the cold air near the floor into warm air that rises and spreads throughout the room.
Hydronic heaters are considered to be more energy efficient. Convection heaters are more common. There are more convection plug-in units available. Convection heaters also are cheaper and have more range of sizes and power ranges.
This is just some information to help you to familiarize yourself with electric baseboard heaters.
