If you heard that something had come up out of your sewer, you probably wouldn’t want anything to do with it, right? Unfortunately in some cases, you don’t always have a choice. Take sewer gnats for example. These annoying pests look a little bit like fruit flies, but this is mostly because of their size and the fact that they are very annoying buzzing around your home.

The difference is that sewer gnats live inside of your drain pipes, and they look a lot more like a moth than a fly. If you were to swat one of them, you will notice that they leave a black powder behind.

Getting rid of a nest of sewer gnats usually requires that you get it mechanically removed, such as with a snake. Some have tried pouring bleach or boiling water down the drain, but this isn’t usually effective, since the eggs will survive and quickly repopulate your home.
