The first tip is to try to find the source that is attracting the fruit flies. Do you have a vegetable or a fruit with a small scratch or dent in it? Is there a fruit in the bottom of your fruit bowl that is starting to rot? All of these things can definitely attract fruit flies. So inspect all the fruits and vegetables that you leave out.
Another tip is to clean all your countertops and sink to make sure there are no food particles remaining. Fruit flies do not like clean surfaces.
The last tip is to make your own fruit fly trap. You can easily do this by taking a bowl or jar and filling it about halfway with apple cider vinegar. Then add a few drops of liquid dish soap. Next, place plastic wrap on top and secure it with a rubber band. Last, poke small holes into the plastic. You will be surprised at how many fruit flies you will catch this way.
