There are people who love to feed the squirrels and do not mind that they take over their bird feeders. There are others, who would rather not have the squirrels eating all of their birdseed and scaring away the birds. If you would rather not feed the squirrels here are a few tips to squirrel-proof your bird feeder.

The first tip is that if you use a pole to hang your feeder, try using a squirrel baffle to help discourage the squirrel from climbing up the pole. Some people will use a slinky that they wrap around the pole, which discourages the squirrel from climbing on.

Another tip would be to try using a caged bird feeder or a squirrel-resistant bird feeder. Just keep in mind that a caged bird feeder will only allow small birds through, keeping larger birds out.

The last tip is to try feeding squirrels their own food. You could use a dry corn cob feeder, which you could make yourself. When you offer the squirrels their own food, they may leave your bird feeder alone.

These are just a few tips that will help you to squirrel-proof your bird feeder so that you are better able to enjoy the birds.
